found this from my trip home christmas 2019 - this is my high school theatre. . the first real work i did as an actor was on this stage. being there again - i went full sentimental. like, made sure no one was around and then got up and actually *sang a song* from The King and I that i’d performed here. 🤦‍♀️ sooo cheesy. so fun. . may the arts flourish in again in 2021. may the theatre and all those who depend on it for income & for soul food come roaring back to life and tell us more stories. . and until then - be safe, be calm & be kind.

post and beam with reclaimed wood . 1. this is the ceiling of a room in my new home 2. the post-and-beam was salvaged from a cedar that came down in the 90s near where i live 3. the wood that will fill in the ceiling is all reclaimed from the deck of my old house 4. it’s a process called Shou Sugi Ban where you seal the wood by charring it. then we buffed it by hand (ourselves!). 5. wait till you see the finished product...! . using #reclaimedwood so that no new trees are cut down; using local wood so that the carbon footprint is minimal. #greenbuilding #swchome #shousugiban

a year ago i woke up in a tent on the beach in my home state surrounded by the kupuna & keiki of my family. . 2020 tested, rarified & frightened us. it kept us apart & stopped some of us utterly. it reminded us of how much we need each other, too. . the earth rested, then the volcano erupted. . i have no idea what is coming next. but may we all greet it with grace, humor, and deep love for one another.

i haven’t seen A Christmas Carol since i was in it back in grad school. yesterday i watched The Old Vic’s live (streaming) production - starring one of my favorite TV husbands. . he’s marvelous. the production is wonderful. . there are a couple of shows left. pro- tip: wear waterproof mascara. . #theoldvic #achristmascarol #thefamilygrimes
