About 10 years ago we had a contest whereby people submitted home-made videos for tracks of mine. this video by antonin pevny, for a really obscure song called ‘after’ from ‘destroyed’, blew me away. I had been expecting fairly basic home-made videos, and this video is clearly is much more than that… @antoninbpevny #tbt

Every 10 days or so I make a gigantic pot of soup: 1-boil black beans, pinto beans, chickpeas(save liquid). 2-in another pot: sautée onions, scallions, leeks, shallots, garlic. 3-add carrots and potatoes and homemade vegetable stock to sautéed onions, etc. 4-boil til potatoes are soft. 5-puree potato/onion/carrots, etc. 6-add purée to cooked beans and bean liquid. 7-add bay leaves and salt and pepper and corn. 8-cook at low heat for another hour, stirring regularly. And if you make enough you can freeze half and it should feed you for 10 days. Also nutritionally it’s perfect: filled with protein, antioxidants, fiber.

It’s 2021, and we have a chance to change, to create a world in line with our values. And a central part of that has to be ending the use of animals for food. To combat climate change, to prevent pandemics, to prevent cancer, diabetes, and heart disease, to protect workers, and to save animals. A kind, healthy world simply cannot involve torturing and killing animals.

How are you holding up? From covid-19 to the climate emergency to the constant attacks on democracy to racial violence this year has been unbelievably stressful and anxiety producing. But it’s almost over, and in 2021 hopefully we can all do all that we can to fix the problems we’ve inherited and/or created.

Like many people my first introduction to ambient music was through brian eno and david bowie, on side 2 of ‘heroes’. Fun fact, joy division had originally been called ‘warsaw’, named after one of brian eno and david bowie’s ambient tracks.

One of my favorite things about ambient music is that it’s not demanding. It’s only purpose is to function as musical architecture, to sit in the background and simply affect the space in which it’s being played.

I made 10 of these live ambient improvised recordings, and i’ll be putting up a new video every day for the next 9 days. Oh, and i sincerely hope that you’re finding some calm and happiness during the holidays.

Hi. when the pandemic started (was that 20 years ago?) i found a lot of calm and comfort in making quiet ambient music for myself. Then i thought it might be an interesting project to document myself making these ambient pieces. I gave myself one rule; they all had to be improvised, with no rehearsing or writing of pieces beforehand. I’m releasing the album of these Live Ambient Improvised Recordings today, as i know that so many of us are isolated and struggling through the holidays. Also on December 30 i’ll be hosting an event on @twitch with some music therapy experts, and ahead of that i’ll be releasing these live videos for each track. I hope that somehow you find calm and comfort in what is an unbelievably hard and challenging time.
