“We, humans, are neurobiologically hardwired for connection with other people. In the absence of connection, love and belonging, there is always suffering. You can’t go it alone.” - @brenebrown

You can help somebody and that somebody will subsequently help somebody else and you thereby contribute to the overall improvement of the world and constitute the small link in a great chain of kindness. What if this was the ultimate purpose of life and our role in the cosmic drama?

2020, what a year. Testing, transformational and overwhelming. My last push towards a full recovery is about connecting with the real world, surrounded by people I love, here and in the moment. So I’m taking a long and much needed time off from social media. Stay safe and healthy All and see you in 2021

Full credit goes to @yuval_noah_harari : “Humans have always been better at inventing tools than using them wisely. In the 1950s, artificial intelligence started out as a scientific dream to build a computer that would imitate the human mind perfectly. In 1980, Steve Jobs described a computer as "a bicycle for our minds". But fast-forward several decades, and AI is in the hands of an elite class of profit-making corporations, who mainly use it to get us Homo sapiens to click on ads and to feed our addiction to online media (where you are now reading these words, yes). As Tristan Harris puts it, "we've moved away from having a tools-based technology environment to an addiction and manipulation-based technology environment. Social media isn't a tool that's just waiting to be used. It has its own goals and it has its own means of pursuing them by using your psychology against you." In our current reality, technology is being used to manipulate our minds, our society and the entire world on a daily basis, at an accelerating pace and in ways we find difficult to imagine. A new film that's released today raises the alarm on this disturbing phenomenon, and puts an uncomfortable mirror to our faces by illustrating what is happening behind the scenes. 'The Social Dilemma' will definitely get you thinking about the way you interact with technology, and should be essential viewing for anyone who is old enough to open a social media account.”

#happyonearth “Happiness is not the surplus of pleasant over unpleasant moments, according to @yuval_noah_harari Rather, happiness consists in seeing one’s life in its entirety as meaningful and worthwhile.” As Nietzsche put it, if you have WHY to live, you can bear almost any HOW. A meaningful life can be extremely satisfying even in the midst of hardship, whereas a meaningless life is a terrible ordeal no matter how comfortable it is. To be continued... @walkingon.earth

#HappyonEarth 2300 years ago, Epicurus defined happiness as the ‘supreme good’. He proclaimed material possessions and achievements alone could not make one happy, rather its blind pursuit would make one sorrowful. Ultimately, when all is said and done, he observed, happiness and contentedness had to have been a result of the lengths and depths of long-lasting, profound and deeply impactful relationships. Centuries later, and Epicurus’ observation still stands true. Psychiatrist Robert Waldinger has spent most of his life studying happinessIn fact, he is the director of Harvard’s longest study on human happiness spanning across 75 years! Here are some of his insightful lessons on what makes a good life️ 1. Good relationships keep us happier and healthier. 2. Good relationships are correlated with good physical health. 3. Good relationships don’t just protect our bodies, they also protect our brains. 2300 years later, Waldinger echoes Epicurus. Happiness is not the result of ephemeral material possessions...It is the depth of our relationships strengthened over time️ Today and everyday spread joy, spread love, spread positivity. #happyonearth @walkingon.earth

Happiness begins when expectations ends? #HappyonEarth According to Buddhism, most people identify happiness with pleasant feelings, while identifying suffering with unpleasant ones. People consequently ascribe immense importance to what they feel, craving to experience more and more pleasures, while avoiding pain. Problem, according to Buddhism, is that our feelings are no more than fleeting vibrations, changing every moment, like the ocean waves. If 5 minutes ago I felt joyful and purposeful, now those feelings are gone, and I might feel sad and dejected. So if I want to experience pleasant feelings, I have to constantly chase them, while driving away the unpleasant feelings. Even if I succeed, I immediately have to start all over again, without ever getting any lasting reward for my troubles. According to Buddhism, the root of suffering is neither the feeling of pain nor of sadness nor even of meaninglessness. Rather, the real root of suffering is this never-ending and pointless pursuit of ephemeral feelings, which causes us to be in constant state of tension, restlessness and dissatisfaction. Due to this pursuit, the mind is never satisfied. Even when experiencing pleasures, it is not content, because it fears this feeling might soon disappear and craves that this feeling should stay and intensify. According to Buddhism, the key to happiness is know the truth about yourself — to understand who, or what, you really are. Most people wrongly identify themselves with their feelings, thoughts, dislikes and likes. When they feel anger, they think, ‘I am angry. This is my anger.’ They consequently spend their life avoiding some kinds of feelings and pursuing others. They never realize that they are not their feelings, and that the relentless pursuit of particular feelings just traps them in misery. To be continued... @walkingon.earth

#HappyOnEarth A recent @harvard survey found that over 80% of Millenials’ ultimate life goal is “to become rich and famous”...But does this eventually bring people to happiness? Not really. Or even not at all. Should “Happiness” actually be our ultimate life goal? “Over the past century, humankind has managed to do the impossible and rein in famine, plague and war. Today, more people die from obesity than from starvation; more people die from old age than from infectious diseases; and more people commit suicide than are killed in war. We are the only species in earth’s long history that has single-handedly changed the entire planet, and we no longer expect any higher being to shape our destinies for us.” Success breeds ambition, and one of next biggest humankind’s challenges according to @yuval_noah_harari will be boundless “Happiness”. For all the above reasons, @walkingon.earth is starting #HappyonEarth movement tomorrow to elevate World Happiness to be continued...

#HappyonEarth Just like brawn and brains 🧠 , you can exercise your happiness muscles on a daily basis 🧡 “What and who am I grateful for today?’- this is the exercise I do and the first question I ask myself when I open my eyes every single morning. This practice helps me feel happy from the first minutes of my every day. We tend to take things for granted. That’s how we, humans, are. Wanting more, better, faster. Leaving our yesterdays achieved dreams behind. Which we shouldn’t. The world’s happiest man, Buddhist monk, Matthieu Ricard also believes happiness, like running, is a skill that can be practiced. ‘Start by thinking happy thoughts for 10 to 15 minutes a day’, says Ricard. What is your daily practice to boost happiness? To be continued... @walkingon.earth

How Happy are you on a scale of 1 to 10? #HappyOnEarth @walkingon.earth According to scientists, happiness rate is in our DNA. Some people are born with cheerful biochemical system that allows their mood to swing from 6 to 10, stabilizing with time at 8. Such a person remains happy even if he loses all his money in stock exchange crash or lives in a big alienated city. Think of your family and friends, you know some people in your life among them who remains joyful no matter what befalls them. We tend to believe that if we buy a new car, get married or finish writing that novel, we would be on the top of the world. Yet when we get what we desire, we don’t seem to be any happier. We never get satisfy with whatever we achieve and we tend to get bore after sometime. Buying cars, get married or writing novels do not get to change our biochemistry. They can only startle us for a fleeting moment. Since our biochemistry limits the volume and duration of these sensations, the only way to make people experience a high level of happiness over an extended period of time is to manipulate their biochemical system and to exercise the happiness muscle on an everyday day basis...
