I often gravitate to polarizing music. For me, weird experimentation and unhinged creativity often lead to exciting results and new sounds. From the dissonance of the Bomb Squad’s production on Public Enemy Records in my childhood, to the jittery agitation of Aphex Twin, to the chaos of Death Grips, some of my favorite artists are ones that aren’t for the majority. I love that this remix pushes those buttons. Thank you to Dylan and Laura for re-envisioning our first single with their one-of-a-kind style.

For 2021, I wanted to find a way to give back to my amazing community online. I’m looking for voclaists, rappers, and songwriters who need help getting to the next level. If I find someone great, I’ll produce their track, live on my Twitch channel. There’s no formal contest, just an intention. The fans on Twitch will help me find the right vocalists. my only “rules” are 1.) I’m not doing vocals, 2.) I’d like the artist to only contribute vocals and one instrument, nothing filled-out, just the “song,” and 3.) no back-seat producing, the track has to be in my hands until I feel like I’m done. This was the infamous RV we lived and traveled in during our first tour of the US. The second photo is the inside, with us playing Puzzle Fighter (our favorite game at the time). Most of the guys took turns driving; Brad and Rob generally entrusted me with their shifts because I was better at driving this beast (and they wanted extra sleep). Each time we showed up at a venue, we’d unload our gear ourselves and keep an eye out for thieves while we set up on a piece of the stage barely big enough to fit the band. After shows, we’d meet with (mostly new) fans outside, hanging out and occasionally signing an autograph. #ht20 #hybridtheory #hybridtheory20

We’ve talked about “boxing up our packages for the street team” back before we had a record deal, but I doubt you guys have ever seen the images. Here’s me, Joe, Rob, and Jessica (our intern at the time) putting cassettes and stickers into boxes for fans. Circa 1997, my parents house. I bought this mixing board from a reseller for a couple hundred bucks, and I felt like such a pro. Some of the tracks were broken, but it was what I needed to make my beats sound decent (it had EQs and I could route a guitar pedal for effects). It sat here in the corner of my bedroom in my parents house, with other gear piled up on the shelves of the closet to my right. Mark and I made all the earliest demos (Dialate, Reading My Eyes, Rhinestone, Esaul, Stick N Move) on this setup. We were shooting a roll of black and white photos because we thought it looked “artistic.”

I found the photos! Many of you have heard the story about how I locked myself in the rehearsal space and came out with the demo for In The End. I had switched from Cubase to ProTools at this point, and was making beats with my MPC 2000 (on the floor). We didn’t have a table & chairs in the room, so I just sat on the floor and worked.
