After the year that was I couldn’t think of a more perfect way to spend NYE... at home with my husband and three beautiful girls ️ 2020 definitely taught me to slow down, focus on home and be present for every little moment. In honour of #worldbreastfeedingweek @tommeetippeeaustralia have asked me to share my breastfeeding journey. I started out being told that because Kennedy was a premmie I would have to work extra hard if I wanted to breastfeed her. She was in the NICU and I was in a hospital room but I was determined I was going to do it, I got her feeding schedule from the nurses and every time I knew she was being given a feed, through the tube in her nose which was every three hours day and night, I was up pumping to try and bring in my supply. And I was a massive “overachiever” as all the nurses told me! I had enough supply to fill two entire fridges and I was so proud! When Kennedy finally came home I thought it would be so easy because I was nailing the pumping, but quickly found out if I didn’t eat an insane amount of carbs my milk would all but dry up. So determined to keep going I did what I had to do to keep feeding her, which meant putting on 10kg over the 3 months I breastfed her at home. It started to take a massive toll on me. I was turning into a person I didn’t recognise and in hindsight I was suffering from a bit of PPD, so this beautiful natural thing that was so important to me to do, started to send me down a spiral. I felt removed from everyone because I was always away breastfeeding and, in the headspace I was in, telling myself no one even noticed that I wasn’t there with them. I would sit up doing 2am feeds absolutely hating my husband for how “easy” he had it. Overall I just felt very alone. I kept telling myself I loved breastfeeding, because I was meant to, everyone told me I would. The day Kennedy woke up and decided she didn’t want to do it anymore I had mixed feelings, I felt she had given up because I had failed, I was worried everyone would judge me for not trying hard enough, and I was so terrified that the bond I had developed with her wouldn’t be the same. But looking back, it was the best thing that ever happened for us both. I found myself again, and I love knowing I did everything in my power to give her that start, but mostly I love knowing that now I can be the best Mum possible because I look after me too ️ #wbw2020

Where has my baby gone?! It feels like yesterday I was feeding her a bottle every couple of hours and now she's drinking out of her own water bottle! She is so independent, which I love, but it also means there can be a lot of spills. We are both loving the @tommeetippeeaustralia weighted straw cup.
