The third Monday of every January, we celebrate the accomplishments and life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A man who campaigned his entire life for the benefit of advancing the civil rights of minorities. As the inauguration of President Elect Joe Biden speeds towards us, it is important to recognize the accomplishments that have been passed on to us but it is just as important we carry his message forward and continue to fight for equality. As you can see from actual pieces from June 2020 pulled from @harpersmagazine, we still have so far to go.

Heavy on my mind

2020 has been treacherous, ugly and eye opening. With all the heart ache more heart ache seemed to follow. Few have been untouched by the tragedies that have ensued this year. After three long years of production I was ready to bring Pseudo Labs to life only to find waves of difficulties in our first year and many notions that maybe I was not cut out for business. I want to leave 2020 with thoughts of resilience, an idea that we as humanity will always together prevail. I’m taking with me into 2021 the sense that when we begin to believe in ourselves and that we are capable of turning catastrophe into hope, that’s when the magic follows. Here’s to the Roaring Twenties and prayers the Great Depression won’t follow LOL

This past Saturday marked one year without Biggie. The pain in my heart is still just as heavy as the day he left us. The thought of him makes my throat swell and my eyes water. I wonder everyday if it ever gets easier. I wish so badly I could hold him one more time.

Forever my favorite room. When moving to Puerto Rico, I wasn’t sure how I’d fill this place with enough memories to call it home. In just a short year and a half, we’ve had enough visitors come stay to fill our lifetimes with memories. While this room will always have a special hold on me, it’s Puerto Rico that truly has my heart.️ #mycb2

Many words I’d like to say today but I will save them for the days, weeks, and years to come. Today is a day for listening, learning and changing. #blackouttuesday

I cry this morning after the overwhelmingly hideous state of our world today. I cry because for my entire life, I was raised to not see color and to treat all human beings with respect, kindness, compassion and empathy. I cry because I thought we all lived this way. I cry because I have been sheltered and privileged and able to ignorantly live in this clouded mindset. I cry that there are people in this world that face pain and fear for simply being a different color. I cry thinking that my beautiful world of color, community and culture is overshadowed by disgusting monsters that think that they are better than anyone else in this world solely based off the lightness in their skin. I pray that I live to see the world celebrate each others differences. I pray that my eyes remain open to the adversities that others face. I pray that I am informed enough to do the best that I possibly can for them everyday. I pray that those that assume staying silent or choose not to get involved are able to see that a simple post on your account tells those facing prejudice that we are on their side and choose to make it known we are here, we are listening and we are changing. #blacklivesmatter

My dearest Kass, happiest of birthdays. You deserve the entire world shouting it in unison because of all the light you shed onto it everyday! Thank you for sticking through all my my business & work ventures, sharing a bottle of wine and lending an ear, encouraging me to zip line on a Tuesday, the list goes on. Thank you for being you.
