Yesterday’s adventures. Pre demolition sale in Stone Harbor, NJ. 90’s custom artist series Koehler bathroom fixtures. Last frame, a sea slug I found on the beach that secreted purple ink when I put it back in the water. @decorhardcore @zillowgonewild search http://kingpropertyphotos.com/avalonestate/?p=17217 or “Avalon Estate Liquidators” to find more info on this sale.

I haven’t been to Lambertville, NJ in a while and it’s really sad to see how downhill this once quaint town across the River from New Hope, has gone. It’s downright scary! “If you’re going to fight a war on terror, a good place to start would be Americas haunted houses.” - Norm MacDonald #waronterror #hauntedhouse #spider

Instagram is getting boring and it somehow has discouraged me from posting things, so here’s some random photos from random times. 1. A bitter melon I grew a while back 2. A chandelier I’m working on 3. Part of a screen print I made in 1992 4. A poorly cropped photo of #mattreason at Love Park around the same time. 4. Miscellaneous stuff in my house. 5. A party I went to last Friday

Cole’s Gray Treefrog I met yesterday in Cape May. Believe it or not, I’m actually working a lot in the @octopus_chandeliers studio when I’m not out exploring and hoarding sea shells for the #seashellgrottoroom Most of these shells are dug up in secret locations or dredged and washed up after storms. These shells are decades if not centuries old. Those giant moon snail shells were found along abandoned train tracks and I’m dying to find more. Others are from flea markets and thrift stores. I don’t even need more, I just can’t help myself! 🥴

I often find myself obsessing over the same things that @crgstudios is painting. Seashells, drips, moss, mushrooms, moths, and colors. While she is a huge inspiration to me, I think it’s something more connected but that’s not the point of this post. The point is, if you are in the Los Angeles area, this is the last week of her show at @kpprojectsgallery Go see it for me!! ✦ Last Week to View ✦ Camille Rose Garcia's “Obsidian Butterfly" Inspired by Octavio Paz’s poem of the same name, ‘Obsidian Butterfly’ is a collection that explores the symbolism of natural forces, and the ocean as a vessel to process and heal. While the initial inspiration comes from both the poem itself and the Aztec goddess' namesake, the collection is both universal and deeply personal. When wildfires engulfed the West Coast last year, Camille was evacuated, not knowing the fate of her home. In those moments of uncertainty, she headed to the ocean to take solace in the vast body of water. The eerily beautiful colors of the sunset against a fiery sky later became the palette inspired in her current work, while ideas of opposing forces - water and fire – continued as evolving concepts. From this elemental juxtaposition, the works of ‘Obsidian Butterfly’ were born, like a phoenix rising from the ashes. "My intention with these paintings is to craft a new poetic reality where paintings become transformational objects, vessels imbued with the magical spells of a collective underground of dreamers and visionaries. Crafting ritual objects inspired by both reality and dreams, walking between cultural worlds, tying together the uses of art and mythology… I want to put the magic back into a world that needs it now more than ever…” – Camille Rose Garcia Featured : “Transmutation of Sorrow” Acrylic and glitter on wood panel with Pacific foraged driftwood, 48 x 48 inches

15 years ago my photo book of 15 years of photography, “Monster Size Monsters” came out by @rogergastman & @gingkopress . At the time, 15 years of photos felt like a really big deal but now it feels like the book came out a year ago. 2006 was a crazy time for me. I was going through a divorce and basically had to triple my income to keep the house. It all came together somehow and it’s been a wild ride ever since. Thanks @rogergastman for these extra copies you found and for all your support over the years. You might be able to find a copy on eBay or something

Summer is officially over and Creature couldn’t be happier for the beaches to clear out again. All the screaming from his fans can be a bit annoying over time. @wildwood365 #juancabana @curiositiesdallas

I won this fantastic sanctuary lamp at auction before reading the conditions that I needed to pick it up in person four states away in Massachusetts. Luckily @ryanmatthewcohn & @reginamariecohn live along the way so I got to have a fun visit with them. Thank you again for the hospitality!

Been growing many varieties of Passion flowers in and around my house for at least 17 years, it’s my favorite flower but while I’ve collected buckets of the fruit, it never tasted good. I bought this one from the local supermarket for a staggering $2 and I must say, it was worth every two dollar bill. I feel bad for teasing the creatures and not sharing but sometimes you need to do that so they keep their “creature edge” #passionfruit #creature

This month marks the 20th anniversary of my first octopus chandeliers that I sculpted, molded, and cast in plaster. I didn’t really know what I was doing but I pulled it off and created a new career for myself about 7 years later. Before that I made a living as a photographer and the transition came when I was totally over the world of commercial photography and the networking etc that it required. As an artist in the mid 90’s and hanging out with other artist friends I was trying so hard and with much anxiety to “make it” in the gallery scene but I was more known for my photographic documentation over the screen prints and whatever else it was I was trying to make. My heart wasn’t in it because I was trying to make what I thought was the thing I was supposed to do. Things changed when I bought my house. I became passionate about what I wanted for the interior. I created something for myself and my own vision. It wasn’t about a reaction from others though that part happened organically. In 2006 I had my first solo exhibit of 7 new octopus chandeliers at @jonathanlevineprojects in NYC and it all came together. The point of this message? It’s about being true to your own vision first before the vision that one might thinks is the one to follow. If you can make Art that fulfills you first, that’s the most important part. If people like it and want to buy it (and you want to sell it) and you can make a living from it, it’s the greatest feeling. Well until you gotta pay your quarterly taxes which are due on Wednesday . Stay tuned for another “Tax Day” sale.

#tossbacktuesday @stevefaas @oyolaskate and I forget who else was there with @nieratko and I when I shot this photo for the last issue of @bigbrotherskateboardmag in 2004. Story is some drunk girl drove her car into the pool so they had to drain it and clean it. I shot this from a lift. It was mostly unskateable but it was worth the opportunity!

Crazy flooding in Philadelphia. It was very strange seeing this because the weather today was so beautiful and the city was relatively quiet. I was riding around on my bike and from South Philly, the roads were mostly cleaner than normal and there was no signs of devastation on the path I took. The storms passed northwest of the city however the rain waters upstream of the Schuylkill River came roaring down flooding Manyunk and places near the river long after it stopped raining. I’m back at the beach now. Raymond Spider crab is doing well, thanks for asking. My niece Alyona took great care of him this week. Ok.

Pendant by @axelstocksbook I acquired this week along with another belt buckle like the silver one I’ve been wearing for the past 16 years. I’ve been searching for more of Axel’s “Treasures From The Sea” collection for years. Axel who passed away in 2015 was a really special wizard. That’s him (last photo) the day I met him in 2005 in LES NYC. Check out @axelstocksbook by @jondix & @lindseyguttilla it’s really inspiring #axelrstocks #axelizations #axelstocks #axelstocksbook

Meet Raymond Spider Crab. He’s my pet for my birthday week here in Wildwood Crest, NJ. I picked him up out of an old milk crate next to my boat the other day and I’ll be releasing him tomorrow back where I found him. Having a saltwater tank at the beach vacation started sometime back in the 80’s and it’s a highlight of my summers. In the past my brothers and I would go out snorkeling at nighttime with flashlights looking for tropical fish that come up this way via currents but unfortunately they can’t get back so they die when the water gets cold. Raymond will be fine. He’s a local to these waters and he’s single, a Virgo, enjoys scratching his head, long craws along the seabed during the full moon, and absolutely loves fresh mussels and oysters and the stinkiest of dead fish.

No, this isn’t one of those fancy school portraits. This is shot with the wide angle on my smart phone with no fill light. The sunset today was incredible and I didn’t even notice the rainbow over Umi’s head until after I shot this. I would like to thank God and Hurricane Henri for their assistance in this quick portrait. @wildwood365

My birthday is on the 25th and I want this sign that’s on South street at @accentonanimals . Well, not this particular sign, but a copy of it. I would never want the public to be deprived of this wonderful piece of art. And no, you won’t see this one at the @philamuseum
