Fresh snow fell overnight and come morning, the landscape had changed quite dramatically. The mighty mountain faces remained hidden, until the very last minute when the sun found a way to transform everything, even if for a brief moment. Finally back home with family and soon headed for Canada. Upon my return I'll release a new collection of images form NZ, Patagonia and Canada. Please feel free to subscribe to my newsletter to see these first as well as my blog post from this trip. Link is in my bio. Cheers!

The autumn colours have drifted with the wind, the weather is beginning to become cold and uncomfortable and the photography tours and tourists have packed up and headed home. So, I figured now was the right time to board a plane for a quick solo trip to briefly explore the mountains of Patagonia, in both Chile and Argentina. A region that I've been in awe of for many years now and one that is no stranger to any serious outdoor photographer, I just couldn't put this trip off any longer. I'll be using the next 9 days to experience first hand the majesty of these mountains, disconnecting from the daily noise of the online world but essentially re-connecting in a deeper, more fulfilling way. God willing, all of my new work from the first half of this year I'll eventually release on my website and through my newsletter first before here.. (so please feel free to click my bio link to receive it and see what I've been up to as well as new workshop openings). Thanks @travel_in_pixels for sneaking this shot of me as I was looking up at the mountains of NZ recently. Also, being Mother's Day here today, a special shout out to my Mum who's always supported me and raised me to be the man I am today and of course @reneepatino my wife, best friend and mother of my two dear children whom I'm missing already. I couldn't do this without you xox

I've just finished up my autumn workshop in New Zealand where we were treated to some of the finest conditions I've experienced across the South Island in over a dozen trips. Clear skies, gale forced winds, rain, rainbows, sublime lenticular clouds and the first snow dump of the season, we really had it all. A big thank you to the crew who came along and let me share with you my passion and favourite part of the world. It's great to be back home with family so until I eventually find time to process some images, here's on from the iPhone camera roll.

I'd much rather look at someone else's photos rather than my own. However, this one of my wife and son hangs proudly on my wall.

The Budawangs, one of the national parks that made my list of 'NSW locations that’ll make you feel small' (over on my blog). Here, a small opening right on sunset allowed the western wall of the Castle to be ignited for a few brief minutes. For me, this was one of the reasons I made this trek in the scorching summer heat through the dense Aussie scrub for numerous hours. The other reason is simply because I need wilderness. I need it to be reminded not just how beautiful the world is, but also to remember what matters most in life. Here, things are much simpler, the noise of everyday life drifts off with the wind and all that you’re left with is the raw necessities and a humbling reminder of how small we are. It saddens me when I see our impact on these environments, plastic and remnants carelessly discarded. Something we’ve all been guilty of. Whether you’re out on a photography mission or just getting away and exploring for the weekend, please, take out what you bring in and dispose of your waste properly. This earth is all we have. #heytosser #putitinthebin #reportatosser

I've been embracing precious family time the past couple of months, occasionally shooting locally when the atmosphere is right. This is a new one from Bombo Quarry, an angle I've been waiting a year to re-shoot as the sun aligns just right. I've got some new work I'll soon add to my website (including last nights storm). It's going to be a big year ahead with my workshops which I'm excited for but mainly a couple of personal trips planned in order to keep creating and exploring, pursuing these visions which often plague my thoughts. Thanks for your support.

Hovering in the air with my leg outstretched holding the door open, the south westerly wind violently shaking the chopper. I had a quick and strange flashback of my former self, years before any of this came to be. Life sure can make some unexpected turns, some for better some for worse. Minutes later I was dropped below and waved goodbye to my ride. Left alone to explore this vast land. Hiking around, I kept reflecting on life's frailty and the importance of being in the moment. That's all we have. Right here, right now. Make it count.

Viewed from Eagle Rock in the RNP, it’s a humbling sight watching the mighty Curracurrong Falls dive into the raging sea below. A sight not too many Sydney siders realise is in their own backyard. Photography that has led me to such places and given me a love and respect for nature that I never once had. To protect the environment and our wildlife, we need to each do our part. Something so common and disregarded as littering can and does have horrendous consequences on our marine life and community. Please, wherever you are, take your rubbish with you, put it in a bin and report a tosser. For more of my favourite NSW landscape that’ll make you feel small, feel free to stop by my website to check out my latest blog post (link in my bio) #heytosser #putitinthebin #reportatosser

I've had a pretty easy life. I feel provided for in every way, without need or want. I know this is far from the truth for many, if not the majority. So, if you're struggling, fighting, hurting or yearning - do not give up. There is hope. Always.

Looking at these mountains, you reminded me that some of the most beautiful things are born from affliction. So when these hours of darkness come, I'll await with hope that light that always finds a way.

A new image from a recent trip back to the Budawangs with my friend and fellow photographer/hiker @crispy_scapes. This was our third trip to the national park and very reminiscent of our previous treks with scorching summer heat, scratched up legs and some of Australia’s finest mountain and wilderness views. Summiting the Castle and Mt Nibelung on our last visits, we headed further north this time and ascended the ‘Shrouded God’s’ mountain. After a failed attempt on day 1 we ended up admitting defeat and sleeping inside a cave just a few mere vertical metres below the summit. With the protective shade from the cave, we both managed the one of the biggest sleeps we’ve had in years, waking refreshed and determined to make it to the top. We eventually made it up and were welcomed by much grander views than below. The thick scrub still made it difficult to traverse as far east as I would’ve liked so we made it as far as we could and set up camp tucked away in a cosy corner of scrub. The weather fluctuated quite a bit through the next 24 hours and by sunset things moved very fast. Within an hour the sky went from 100% clear to visibility being reduced to just a few feet in front of us. Fortunately it was quite atmospheric and I managed to capture one image I liked just as the last light of day ignited the western face of the iconic Castle.

'All Is Not Lost' - you might remember the video of this a few months back. I had posted it here but Instagram algorithm throttled it to be my least viewed image in almost a year, so I thought I'd post again as it is a personal fave. I'll admit, the intensity of this moment is truly lost here, nothing will compare to the violent sound of the thunder echoing off the cave interior, the wind gusts throwing rain onto my face and camera and of course the sudden 2 minute window when this rainbow emerged as well as the two bolts. The rainbow did indeed stretch across the whole sky however I was already set up and shooting long exposures so I only caught the tail edge. Moving the camera would have resulted in missing the bolts which happened one after the other within 60 seconds or so. As chaotic and violent as this afternoon was, I felt a strong sense of peace and comfort here, something I've experienced a few times now and will continue to pursue. I'm not sure how much new work I'll release this year as I'm becoming more critical but hopefully some more of these moments arise.
