My first book #TheHatmakers is published in the UK today! I am so profoundly grateful to everyone who helped bring this book into the world: my amazing agent @cmlwilson, my brilliant editor @natalieldoh, everyone in the fantastic team at @puffinbooksuk, @paoesco8ar for creating a truly magical cover and illustrations, you are all wonderful and have literally made my dream come true. ️ Thank you to my friends and family who have supported me (and my wearing of silly hats) all along. ️ And especially to @barnaby_douglas who told me to write down the dream in the first place and believed in it from the first day ️ I made this very silly Triumph Bicorn to celebrate 🥳 Help me celebrate becoming an actual published author by tagging me in pics of you wearing your favourite hat ️🥰

Here’s a thing that is a thing! The Hatmakers is a book now! Please excuse my very excited photo but I just wanted to let you know that my book is a book with covers AND pages! My name is on the spine of a book! The Puffin has his OWN LITTLE FRAME TO BE IN.

Instead of watching my phone, I am going to watch the clouds And (so my phone doesn’t get in the way of my view of the sky) I am taking a break from social media for a while.

We’ve lost a legend ️ Dame Diana Rigg once said, “There are some actors who don't like to play bad; they like to be liked. I love to be disliked... " Such a brilliant, witty soul and sensational actor. And a massive inspiration to be a more courageous artist ️

Happy Birthday Puffin! Today we’re celebrating the 80th year of Puffin books with the publication of The Puffin Book of Big Dreams! This is a collection of short stories from Puffin authors, the dreams of kids around the country, all illustrated by brilliant artists. Magic! I am so thrilled that my short story has been published in this book. It officially means that (as of today) I am a published writer 🥳 it is head-spinningly wonderful to have my story in such illustrious company, beside stories from some of my all-time literary heroes from childhood. (Roald Dahl, Malorie Blackman, Jacqueline Wilson, Terry Pratchett!) The book is a beautiful collection, full of heart and soul, big dreams and beautiful art. I thoroughly recommend it #HappyBirthdayPuffin

Very much the beginning Something I’m learning as a novice novelist: draft 1s are hard! Massive respect to anyone who has been trying to create things during this very strange and difficult time we’re living through. And serious respect to anyone living with anyone who is trying to create things, too (thank you @barnaby_douglas, you saintly paragon of patience and encouragement)

THE EDGE is on BBC 2 tomorrow (Sunday 2nd August) at 9pm Directed by the unorthodox treat otherwise known as @barnaby_douglas (I know the review is technically referring to a film he made, but I feel “unorthodox treat” describes the man as well as his movies), with gorgeous cinematography by @redoperator, whip-smart editing by @split_the_difference and featuring an absolutely stunning soundtrack by @felixwhite. Tune in, BBC license fee-payers! (And even if you’re a fee-dodger, tune in anyway, it’ll be worth the fine!) #Idontlikecricket #Iloveit 🧡

I’ve been keeping this under my hat for a while... but I am SO INCREDIBLY EXCITED to finally be able to reveal the cover of my children’s book #TheHatmakers And please throw your top-hats in the air in celebration of the wildly talented @paoesc8ar for bringing Cordelia Hatmaker’s world to life in such vivid gorgeousness. And hats off and a million thank-yous to the wonderful writers @acaseforbooks and @cat_doyle0 for their incredibly lovely quotes that grace the cover. I am wildly excited about this grand adventure and I can’t wait to invite you all into the world of magical millinery and mystery - the book is coming out on January 7th!

Hurrah for the visionary @joanna_eatwell and her brilliant team of artists for a massively-deserved Emmy Nomination! And equally massive congratulations to @composerbarr for a hugely deserved nomination for the gorgeous original music. Your amazing creations gave such life and story and texture, heart and history to the world of Carnival Row. 🧚‍♀️
