My dad once said...”You have 3 choices. You can either be a doctor, a lawyer, or...a failure.” . I didn’t like any of them. So I wrote in my own answer to that multiple choice question. . I spent 2 days struggling to write my acceptance speech for one of the biggest achievement awards of my life. But...just a few minutes before I stepped on stage, I ripped it up. I decided to speak from the ️. . To be honored with the Digital Influencer Award in front of so many people I respect and admire - directors, actors, writers, authors, singers, and fellow creators I’ve watched for so many years - my body was shaking, my heart was racing, but my soul was flying. 🧚‍♀️ . Choosing to follow my passion was scary. I tried to ignore it, but as the days passed on, my heart became more hollow, more fragile, and more lost. I wanted badly to make my parents happy, but I didn’t know how it would be possible if I wanted to be fulfilled too. There were times I even thought of ending it all... . Eventually, my soul couldn’t take it anymore...so I took a risk...on myself, on my family, and on my future. I dropped out of Organic Chemistry, sabotaged my perfect Pre-Med record, and followed my heart to where I am today. . If you grew up Asian American, you’ve probably heard this story. Maybe you ARE this story. Perhaps you’re still trying to figure out YOUR story. . My parents gave me an extremely rough time growing up, but I owe it to them for igniting this INTENSE fire inside me. Their blockades taught me how to FIGHT HARD for what I wanted. We still have a lot to work through, but I love them so much for helping me become to woman I am today. . Thank you @koreasianmedia for this incredible honor and for bringing together so many inspiring people in our community for a moment to stop, dress up real fancy, and celebrate! Thank you to my fellow creators for your genuine friendship and enthusiastic support. And thank you to YOU GUYS, my POPsters - you are the reason why I’m living my actual dream. Did you know that I started learning Pilates when I was just 15 years old? I begged my parents to buy me Mari Winsor’s Pilates DVD off an infomercial! I did her routines over and over again in my bedroom until I memorized every word she said. . When I was in high school, I remember looking in the mirror, shaping my body with my hands, trying to look like the skinny models and actresses on the covers of Teen Vogue and SEVENTEEN. I’d pull my hips towards my butt so that I’d have straight hips/no hips. I’d pull my waist towards my back so that I’d have a tinier midsection. I’d pull my inner thighs toward my hamstrings so I’d have a bigger thigh gap. . It’s crazy that today, the view on hips has completely flipped 180 degrees! Now when I see my hips, I’m oddly “proud”? It’s a weird feeling though because I‘m HYPER AWARE that it’s being affected by the fact that hips are now fashionable. What I’m truly bothered by is that I know that once hips are out of style, something that I once gave me self love can now be the source of my self hatred. . As you can see, even our own body confidence is being marketed to us!! Try as best as you can to NOT let society and the media tell us how we should feel about ourselves. And, why should they have that power? We own our bodies. Not them. #blogilates by @samlivits

The holidays tend to be an eruptive time when it comes to family. Kinda like the wedding, where you spend your time and with who - it all gets a little too personal. So between wrapping presents and entertaining guests, I like to take some time for myself by taking a moment to make myself a matcha tea. It calms me and slows down the time. I see a lot of trainers CLAIMING that they have exercises to WIDEN your hips so that you can look like Kim and Kylie. But...let’s get one thing straight - your hips are actually joints. They’re bones. They’re NOT muscles. . The exercises I’m showing you can surely strengthen the muscles around that area like your gluteus medius, gluteus maximus, and tensor fasciae latae, but what’s under the area that we think of as our hips is actually a large tendon or ligament called the IT band! So no guarantee that the exercises above will make your hips wider. It’ll give your butt a nice lift and will make your hip area firmer though. . But wait...you still wanna know how you can get dramatic hip enlargement? Okay here are 3 ways. . 1️⃣ Give birth and physically widen the bone structure of your hips. 2️⃣ Gain fat there in your hips (but know that you cannot really spot gain or spot reduce for that matter). 3️⃣ Get hip implants. . Real me today, 2018. . You know, this project was so interesting to me because as I was looking at myself getting photoshopped, I thought that I might secretly like one of the results. But the super odd thing was…all of them didn’t sit right with me. Not one! As obvious as it is to say this, I didn’t look like myself in the photos. I actually much prefer my body just as it is. Sure I’ve got a small butt, small boobs, a soft belly, and hip dips, but I’ve also got powerful legs, strong shoulders, and a figure that is all mine – unlike anyone else’s. . My question to all of us women is this: Why do we treat our bodies like we treat fashion? Who’s telling us what’s in and what’s out? . The more I think about this, the more I see the parallels between the fashion industry and the media industry. . The Media = The “designers” telling us who’s body is “in” based on the type of women we see chosen for ads, TV, and movies. Social media is no exception. The explore page on IG is currently full of Kim K bootied influencers. . Influencers and celebrities = The “runway models” that women look up to, want to look like, and even become. However, being the “it girl” doesn’t last long, so before we know it, there’s a new “cool girl” that’s been casted for the show, and now women unknowingly want to look like her because they see her everywhere. . Problem? You can’t just throw out a body part just because it’s “last season”!!! I mean, I guess you could, but you’re gonna lose a lot of $, time, and...blood. And seriously, are you going to let someone else tell you that the way your mother brought you into this world isn’t good enough? . BOTTOM LINE: Please treat your body with love & respect and do not succumb to the beauty standard. Embrace your body because it is YOUR own perfect body. . If I had the “perfect” body throughout history, this is what I’d look like. . Mid 2010s-2018 - Big butts, wide hips, tiny waists, and full lips are in! There is a huge surge in plastic surgery for butt implants thanks to Instagram models posting “belfies”. Even cosmetic surgery doctors have become IG-famous for reshaping women. Between 2012-2014, butt implants and injections rise by 58%. . Mid 90s-2000s - Big boobs, flat stomachs, and thighs gaps are in. In 2010, breast augmentation is the highest performed cosmetic surgery in the United States. It’s the age of the Victoria’s Secret Angel. She’s tall, thin, and she’s always got long legs and a full chest. . Early 90s - THIN IS IN. Having angular bone structure, looking emaciated, and super skinny is what’s dominating the runways and the magazine covers. There’s even a name for it: “heroin chic”. . 1950s - The hourglass shape is in. Elizabeth Taylor‘s 36-21-36 measurements are the ideal. Marilyn Monroe’s soft voluptuousness is lusted after. Women are advertised weight gaining pills to fill themselves out. Playboy magazine and Barbie are created in this decade. . 1920s - Appearing boyish, androgynous and youthful, with minimal breasts, and a straight figure is in! Unlike the “Gibson Girl” of the Victorian Era, women are choosing to hide their curves, and are doing so by binding their chests with strips of cloth to create that straight figure suitable for flapper dresses. . 1400-1700 The Italian Renaissance - Looking full with a rounded stomach, large hips, and an ample bosom is in. Being well fed is a sign of wealth and status. Only the poor are thin. . Why do we treat our bodies like we treat fashion? “Boobs are out! Butts are in!” Well, the reality is, manufacturing our bodies is a lot more dangerous than manufacturing clothes. Stop throwing your body out like it’s fast fashion. . PEONY - Everything here fits true to size. Set The Bar Bra is a compression fit, so ok to go one size up. . MERMAID - same as above. . DARK BLOOM - Tighter Fit. In leggings and bras, you can go one size up from the size chart. The tanks and long sleeves etc are true to size. People have said they like the Queen’s Coat one size down. Same with the flyaway run shorts. If you’re interested in the black highness legging, read under “new stuff”. . DUSTY BLOSSOM - Tanks are true to size. Due to the tightness from the Dark Bloom collection, we increased our sizing but the fabric stretched more than we expected so...looser fit! (I know, sorry.) In general you can go one size down for leggings and bras. . NEW STUFF - Romper is true to size. Go with your bra size, not your legging size when ordering. Highness is wayyyyyy stretchier than before (we added more room in the booty and a little length too) so it’s ok to go a size down. Classic legging, same as highness comments. . Ok hope that helped! And sorry for the confusion. I know it’s frustrating to shop like this, but we are trying so hard to perfect our fit! Yes I admit, it keeps changing. I too am incredibly upset when sizing can’t stay consistent with a brand, so THANK YOU for trusting the process. There are seasons for clean eating and seasons for eating whatever the heck you want because it tastes good. Last night was the latter. . I had a pastrami grilled cheese sandwich loaded with butter with a heaping side of garlic fries. Oh yeah and 5 min before that, I had some pulled pork drenched in BBQ sauce with coleslaw and MORE fries! When I eat like that, no matter how full I am, I somehow get more ravenous! (So that’s one of the many reasons why I don’t eat like that!) But indeed I ate more after that. LOL. 🤤 . Back in the day, I would have guilted myself into feeling bad, I would have cried myself to bed for not being able to control my appetite, I would wallowed in my self hatred. . But no, not today. . When I ate those things, I made the CONSCIOUS decision to do so. I knew I’d get bloated. I knew I’d break out. I knew I wouldn’t feel so good the next day. But I ate it and I owned it. . So today, I’m back on track eating what I normally eat and love to eat too. Veggies. High quality protein. Fruits. Nuts. And life goes on. Your body reacts accordingly. EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE FINE!!! #blogilates
