#Repost @americaferrera @fams2gether ・・・ Please sign the petition to #freethefamilies - we can’t let these babies be separated from their mamas & dadas. Link in my bio. . Repost from @fams2gether • Even though six children & dozens of adults have already died in U.S. immigration custody, @ICEgov continues to hold children & families in jails w/ confirmed COVID-19 cases. **Read on & help us spread the word.** By holding these families in unsanitary jails — which Dolly Gee, a federal judge, described as “on fire”— ICE is cruelly playing with their lives. This is sadistic, and wrong. While Judge Gee has now ordered the release of children from these jails by July 17, she only has jurisdiction over the children in these jails — not their parents or caretakers. Without ALL OF US speaking out to demand the release of these children and their families, ICE may use this court order to attempt to tear children away from their parents again, as they did only a few weeks ago. Take action. Demand that @ICEgov comply with the judge's order and release all families—together. Link in bio.

Hey guys! It’s @candicefortin closing out my IG takeover of Amber’s page. Thanks for engaging in Opal Lee’s petition and I hope you enjoyed the content from our #Juneteenth action today. Black joy is an act of resistance! Since I do electoral work, I gotta plug a few campaigns: 1) I’m on the ballot as a pledged delegate in Congressional District 8. Please vote for me so I can make it to the convention to fight for a progressive platform. 2) Check our @jamaalbowmanny running for Congress in The Bronx in NY-16. He’s a high school principle who understands the needs of his community. He’s also a huge hip hop fan. Like fr. Peep his page. 3) Check out @jabariforstatesenate in District 25! He’s been an active organizer with DSA and also works in education as a teacher. He would also be the first openly-gay BIPOC person in NY State legislature. About time! 4)Check out @yuhline_niou ‘s campaign for re-election as assemblywoman in Assembly District 65. She’s always been a progressive fighter, but since COVID has been fighting for rent freezes and the eviction moratorium. She also daily runs a mutual aid initiative in her district on top of being and elected AND running for re-election! We need these people in office now more than effort. It is not the time to play it safe. We need progressive fighters on the ground and in the community who can best represent us. Even if you are not in their district, consider volunteering remotely or donating. The NY Primary is June 23rd! Let’s make it count! For more info go to vote.org Thank you!

Let me tell you about Opal Lee. Ms. Lee is a 93 yr old black woman from Fort Worth, Texas. In 2016, she began a campaign to walk to Washington, DC in an effort to make Juneteenth a national holiday. She traveled two and a half miles each day to symbolize the two and a half years that Black Texans waited between President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation and the day that message arrived in Galveston where Black people were still enslaved. Today, she is still fighting to make her dream a reality and you can help by signing our @iorganizefor petition to demand that Congress make Juneteenth a national holiday! I want my friend and our future President-in-training to live in a country where “equal rights under law” truly applies to all facets of her life. Here are some of my must-reads. Did you know that only 1% of editors in the publishing industry are Black? Our industry desperately needs transformation at all levels. Help us #amplifymelanatedvoices by decolonizing your bookshelf and supporting Black authors, Black-led presses (like @feministpress), and Black bookstores. Here’s some of what’s on my shelf. #shelfie

On June 1st, 2020 I walked around all day with a deep sense of despair. Every black person I knew and cared about felt the same. As a coach, I had been offering information to my followers regularly which at the time was a very racially diverse group of womxn. I had been receiving questions from my white audience on how to help, what to do etc. Arguing began in the comments and I decided to go live to talk to my white followers about what they could do to help. 11 people showed up. I was exhausted. I left the live up in case in any of black friends found it to be a useful tool if they were as exhausted as I was. The video is now at 5.8 million views and has been shared across the world. I’ve received thousands of messages and stories from people who have used the video as a tool to talk to family for the first time, talk to children, or even to make changes within their workplace. When making the video, I didn’t think my voice would really be heard. I share this because so many have told me that they don’t have an “audience”. big enough. None of that matters. Speak your truth. Keep speaking it. Maybe no one listens today. But tomorrow they might -Ivirlei Brookes *full video on my page @ivirlei

A word from my dear friend @madamejeuge: 🖤 I keep hearing and seeing the statement “ lets just focus on one thing at a time”. If we are focusing on one thing, which is ONENESS why is there separation in regards to Black Trans Lives Matter ? If we can hold space and enter the conversation about colorism in the black community, then please help me understand why does our conversation have to be saved for a later date. Can that same energy, outrage and solidarity be kept ? Or does it challenge the areas in which growth and being open to learning and unlearning has to take place within oneself. I can’t help but feel how we’re just pointing the finger of how white supremacy has affected and neglected us. While trans and LGBTQIA family are affected, neglected, attacked or murdered by our own black community. . I have witnessed people say “Gracie I support you” to then find them on Shaderoom clowning my trans brothers and sisters purposely misgendering them. And if they ever wondered why they never heard from me again well know you know. Treat them with the same respect and love that you would extend to me. Just as well as non blacks... treat other blacks that are not your friends or colleagues just as you would your black loved ones . Because if you don’t then your ally ship comes off performative and at your convenience. The way you feel about ONE is the way you should feel about ALL. Lastly if you have chose to remain silent on the issues that we are facing as a nation in order to keep your IG aesthetic up while making a conscious choice to continue with your everyday postings and stories as if nothing has happened you are apart of the problem. JUSTICE, EQUALITY, INTEGRITY and CHANGE is on Brand, you either with it or ya not. Keep that same energy publicly that you have privately !!! #BlackLivesMatter #BlackTransLivesMatter #StopKillingUs #Jeuge

IVIRLEI FAVES This is Melissa (@mkoby_ ) I became obsessed with her work a while back for its understated beauty. Her style harkens back to the mid century illustration style that’s fashionable right now, but her compositions have a complexity and refinement that make them so exciting. As someone who works with brands a lot, I know how important art is for creating connection with an audience. Melissa’s work creates such a mood and her page establishes an environment you just wanna climb into and live in. Swipe to check her out

Poem about My Rights BY JUNE JORDAN Even tonight and I need to take a walk and clear my head about this poem about why I can’t go out without changing my clothes my shoes my body posture my gender identity my age my status as a woman alone in the evening/ alone on the streets/alone not being the point/ the point being that I can’t do what I want to do with my own body because I am the wrong sex the wrong age the wrong skin and suppose it was not here in the city but down on the beach/ or far into the woods and I wanted to go there by myself thinking about God/or thinking about children or thinking about the world/all of it disclosed by the stars and the silence: I could not go and I could not think and I could not stay there alone as I need to be alone because I can’t do what I want to do with my own body and who in the hell set things up like this and in France they say if the guy penetrates but does not ejaculate then he did not rape me and if after stabbing him if after screams if after begging the bastard and if even after smashing a hammer to his head if even after that if he and his buddies fuck me after that then I consented and there was no rape because finally you understand finally they fucked me over because I was wrong I was wrong again to be me being me where I was/wrong to be who I am which is exactly like South Africa penetrating into Namibia penetrating into Angola and does that mean I mean how do you know if Pretoria ejaculates what will the evidence look like the proof of the monster jackboot ejaculation on Blackland and if after Namibia and if after Angola and if after Zimbabwe and if after all of my kinsmen and women resist even to self-immolation of the villages and if after that we lose nevertheless what will the big boys say will they claim my consent: Do You Follow Me: We are the wrong people of the wrong skin on the wrong continent and what in the hell is everybody being reasonable about and according to the Times this week back in 1966 the C.I.A. decided that they had this problem and the problem was a man named Nkrumah so they killed him and before that it was Patrice Lumumba and before that it was...

IT’S TIME TO HONOR THE IMMENSE FIGHT AND POWER OF THE TRANS COMMUNITY. Yesterday more than 15,000 gathered to honor Black trans lives and power just days after the reporter murders of two Black trans women (Dominique “Rem’mie” Fells and Riah Milton). Allies like @iamwestdakota, @franquishco, @elielcruz, @peytondix, @brohammed and so many more organized a rally with Black trans leaders and organizations (including @thefreeactorvist of @theokraproject, @raquel_willis, @juniormintt, and @doroshow of @glits_inc, @forthegworls, @mpjinstitute, and @btfacollective). #BlackTransPower #BlackTransLivesMatter #BrooklynLiberation . Today, #SCOTUS ruled that LGBTQ+ folks deserve protection at work. One of the cases at the center of the fight involved late elder Aimee Stephens with support from many attorneys, activists, and organizers including @chasestrangio of the @aclu_nationwide . And all of this has happened during #PrideMonth, in which we honor the Stonewall Riots, the militant uprising that gave birth to the modern LGBTQ+ movement. . A new time and era is upon us. No longer can anyone act as if they don’t see us, hear us, or know our power. 1: @sidewalkkilla 2: Raquel Willis

For any white women or men who are struggling to understand the importance of these protests right now, and how to interrogate the discomfort you might be feeling with the way they’re unfolding, I’ve made a chapter from my book Era of Ignition which covers a lot of this—white feminism, fragility, performative allyship— available for free download on my website www.amtam.com. It Includes a brilliant and necessary essay written by author Airea D. Matthews. If you are feeling compelled to dictate to others the way in which they should or should not protest, or how people are allowed to express anger or grief in this moment, please download and read, or send it to someone who you think needs to read it. It’s on each of us to hold each other accountable. It’s on each of us to not only do the growing, but also the watering.

‪It feels good to be out here in Brooklyn, wearing our masks, being angry together, furious for the countless black and brown men and women who have been brutally murdered by police, or lied about by white women, or had their lives destroyed just because of the color of their skin. Enough is enough. We are demanding accountability and change NOW. #BlackLivesMatter ‬
