End of summer traditions. Wrapped my time in Europe with a visit to this gem of a place in the Pyrenees. Every time I think about this stone house, should it be here or should it not ? Does it mess with the landscape? Either way I always come back from this place energized and finally ready to head back to the US.. Thanks for the good times France 🥐

This photo might suggest the opposite but this shelter in the Julian Alps is a pretty comfy place to spend the night. Specially when there’s sideways rain for most of the night. Shot this image a few hours before the storm broke, then we hunkered inside to feast on bread and chicken soup. Living the dream

Mission accomplished, sliding on late summer snow rushing down for a massive panini at the village below. Love this feeling of having finished something difficult- a project, a trip, a climb- and heading home satisfied..

This weirdly beautiful time of day between sunset and dark. On the right you see the sunset over the valley below but the stars have already appeared.. Spent the night in this old refuge and the next morning learned from the care taker that it’s going to be demolished in 2020 to make room for a newer larger refuge... Glad I could immortalize the ole a-frame

Deserted beach. The surf wasn’t great but the water was so clear that you could see all the sand formations underneath. A solid trade off. This part of France is quickly becoming my favourite; empty beaches and pine forests...

Out all the sports I think that surfing must be among the most calming & meditative ones. After every session I feel completely drained and at peace..

And I can’t even show you the best photos.. will release them when @finn and I’s workshop comes out this October. check the link in my profile if you’re curious #FinnxStrohl

What a difference a few months make. Photo 1: Lake Abraham, October. Photo 2: Lake Abraham, January. Still one of the most underrated places in the Canadian Rockies imo...

This is how the inside of a crater full of blue of hot thermal water looks like.. I can promise that it felt even better than it looked.. They showed us the way out after 1hr but we could have stayed the whole morning.

Paddled around this river for a few minutes until I realized that the best part was under the water. So we traded the kayaks for some scuba gear and went back.. Feels good to listen to your instincts.

I was never really into swimming until I met Andrea. For me it was just a way to cool down but I’d never seek it. But after seeing her love for the ocean and being dragged to the beach countless times I can say that it has grown on me. To the point where she gets out before I do

They say you don’t know what true winter means until you’ve spent one here. Meet the Magdalen Islands, Canada. If you’ve followed me for long enough (2014), you’ll remember seeing a few of these images up. High five if you remember them.. Was looking over images from Quebec in my library and stumbled upon them! Still remember the quality of the light there.. soft and rich. It was also very windy and -30c for the entire week...

Walked over to the a-frame at the far end of the beach.. Love how much a simple structure made of wood and straw can be so powerful at affecting our mood. As soon as we got under it we started doing hand stances and fooling around.

Above the timber line, where the air is fresh and the lakes cold. Even though I have a passion for photographing people in their environment I have to admit that composing barren landscapes is a challenge I’m always looking for. It’s what brought me to photography.

Looking back on some of my favourite moments of this year, this one is high up. It reminds me that it’s always a matter of perspective. Rain could have kept us inside but we did the opposite and welcomed it with open arms. We got to create solid memories.. and make a few photos

I love photography but seeing a film project through is one of the most fulfilling things on earth. Finally able to share this short we made for @jaegerlecoultre earlier this year. I would go back diving in that blue crater any day, still can’t believe that’s in Utah! Oh and the BTS comes out tomorrow on YouTube. #JLCPolaris #FRR @jaygullion

Evening jaunt with @ryan.moss on one of the many chossy ridges of O’ahu.. Andrea and I spent a month on this island this winter and I catch myself thinking about that time every other day. The island life is hard to forget🤙

It doesn’t take much more than an evening around a fire to reset the mind and body.. No matter where the future takes us I believe that we still will long for simple raw moments, it’s in us..

Will hard at work during the filming of my summer photo workshop down in Mexico. The upside of working in really hot places Is that you have a good excuse to take a break every hour or so to “cool down”🤙 PS. If you want to see how I shot this entire Mexico series, check the link in my profile for the whole class!

I had forgot how pretty this corner of the world is.. Back in Quebec after 5 years and it feels like coming back to the roots. When I came here to study graphic design in 2009 these forests inspired me to drop from college to (try to) pursue photography full time.. forever thankful!

Dawn patrol in the Italian Alps working with @canonusa. There are two times in the day -before sunrise and after sunset- when light is faint enough that you see someone’s headlamp beam but still can shoot handheld. I love this time of day because it feels pretty dreamy, the environment is barely visible but there is insane light in the sky most of the time! Shot this frame about 15mn before sunrise on the EOS 6D Mark II and the Canon 24mm 1.4 II L. Which is my usual setup for more remote trips.

Moonrise over the bivouac Louis Pascal in the Alps. Only the Italians go and build a hut on top of a mountain just because they can! I’d hike up here every weekend if I’d live in this valley.. Europe has this way of making the alpine more accessible to most, whether you like it or not it’s pretty cool to meet families with young kids sleeping up here...

The Soča river. Sometimes, there are moments where I wish I was on the other side of the camera, doing instead of capturing. This was one of them. The rapids looked gnarly but so fun as the same time! Maybe another day
